Britain has suffered its 200th military death in the war in Afghanistan, when a soldier injured by a roadside explosion died in a hospital in central England.
The soldier, who died on Saturday, was wounded in Helmand province, in southern Afghanistan, on August 13, the defense ministry said.
Gordon Brown, the prime minister, said that the passing of the 200th military personnel since the October 2001 US-led invasion was "deeply tragic", adding that those who had died had made the "ultimate sacrifice".
The death came on the day a car bomb killed eight people and wounded scores more outside the Nato International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) headquarters in Kabul, Afghanistan's capital, on Saturday.
British troop numbers in Afghanistan are currently at their highest level, with 9,150 soldiers stationed in the country.
